According to sources close to Arsenal Central, the Gunners will imminently submit a new offer to Olympique Lyonnais for top target Houssem Aouar.
Mikel Arteta was once again questioned, in his virtual post-match press conference, on the transfer market and more specifically whether he would like to sign Houssem Aouar this summer.
The Spaniard was once again very non-committal with his response saying: “We don’t have any news on new players. It’s a week to go [until deadline day] and I think it will be a busy period for all clubs. Let’s see what happens.”
With just under a week to go until the transfer window shuts, Arsenal will hope to get at least one of two top targets across the line. It is no secret that the hierarchy at Arsenal wants midfielders that complement the thoughts of Mikel Arteta as that is an area that he has become frustrated with and an area where he believes this Arsenal team can improve with reinforcements.
Until the 5th of October, Mikel Arteta cannot avoid the prospect of journalists asking him about progress with Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey interest and if Arsenal fail to get either one of these two players then he may get similar questions once the transfer window closes, especially if Arsenal still look lethargic in the midfield and even more so if it affects our ability to control games and get good results.
Jean-Michel Aulas, the President of Olympique Lyonnais, is one to always go public when it comes to the club’s negotiations with a player during the transfer market and this is no exception.
After the Ligue 1 fixture between Lorient and Lyon which resulted in a draw, it was very evident to see that Houssem Aouar’s mind was not set on this match but instead on a meeting that was forced onto Aulas and scheduled after the match.
Before that, Aouar spoke to Canal+ where the French U21 Midfielder refused to comment when asked about his future.
The same day, Arsenal captain, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang had an interview with the same French media channel where he was asked whether he would like Houssem Aouar to join Arsenal – Aubameyang said: “We are all in favour of his arrival, I will do not hide it. He would certainly add quality. For me, it does not matter that he is currently at Lyon.”
It has been made clear that Alexandre Lacazette has had a number of ‘conversations’ with Houssem Aouar to convince him to come and play under Mikel Arteta.
Due to his close connections with Juninho, who is the sporting director of Olympique Lyonnais, a source close to Edu Gaspar has confirmed he has been calling his former colleague day and night to attempt to get Houssem Aouar to London.
Arsenal are due to come back in with a fourth bid after their first one was rejected due to the inclusion of Matteo Guendouzi and a low valuation of cash, their second one was rejected due to the cash sum being too low at £35m and their third bid being £44.4m + add ons which Aulas also rejected.
The fourth bid is said to be one that will be irresistible considering Lyon’s current financial state due to this year’s pandemic. A fourth bid will be submitted imminently and could have already been submitted Arsenal Central understands.
It is no secret that Arsenal are working around the clock to get Houssem Aouar to North London and the 22-year-old is pushing for a move to the Premier League and more specifically Arsenal.
It will be a battle and according to the 71-year-old Aulas, it will be a battle that must be ‘won’ by Arsenal before Friday, despite the window closing next Monday, or else Houssem Aouar will not be allowed to leave.
This is not a legal issue but more so something that sums up Jean-Michel Aulas in a nutshell as he is trying to get the deal done quicker so Lyon have more time to replace Aouar, who is arguably their best player, rather than selling him on deadline day and having no opportunity to make up for the loss of one of Europe’s most talented creative midfielders.
